Rice Pudding

Rice Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallon whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 1 egg
  • salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla

Steps

  1. Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and cook for at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours. At first stir every 10–15 minutes. After it starts to boil, stir most of the time. It will stick and burn if you don't keep stirring. After about 2 hours it should be fairly thick. You probably won't think it is done, but it thickens as it cools.
  2. Add butter and vanilla. Stir until butter is melted, then pour into a large bowl.
  3. Optionally sprinkle the top with cinnamon. If you like raisins: put a cup in boiling water for a few minutes, then drain and stir into the pudding while it is cooking.
